A new machine

I have always had a great love of machines that do one thing and do it REALLY well.

The most recent new machine for Barras Blades fits firmly into this class. I had the chance to purchase a very lightly used Heiniger Actuecc grinder

It is designed purely for sharpening cattle and sheep clipping blades. This is something that i could do with the big red but it was not a brilliant job due the surface area of the blades is alot more then horse of dog blades.

This also produces a hollow grind as the grinding plates are slightly tapered. Instead of sticking grit to the plate using various potions the discs have basically sandpaper stuck to them. This needs a special clamping tool which comes with the machine which presses the two discs onto the round plate with a handle you can see in some pictures.

I’ll be pushing this service to some of my existing customers as well as new customers in the farming community.

The costs to run this machine as very low and the time to sharpen a blade is very little so the costs will be quite low.

As you can see it is quite a large machine so it is unlikely to be an item that will be added permanently to the mobile workshop. I am going to be making it a mounting for fitting into the 50mm sockets on the back of the mobile workshop.

The real bummer is the power requirement as using my power meter I can see it is pulling over 3Kw on startup. As my inverter is only 1kw then it is going to be a none starter. So for running this in a mobile situation i’ll need to be on shore power or a generator.
