Sharpening order process
A short guide on how mail order sharpening works with barras blades.
My background is in oil and gas where I ran repairs on clients valves. This has given me a good deal of experience in running an efficient repair process so that nothing is overlooked.
The most crucial part in all of this is a work order number that is unique to that job.
I have brought this experience into barras blades so that all jobs get a number so that it can be tracked through the process which makes life alot easier for everyone.
Order creation
There are 3 ways to get an order running with us.
Method 1 is the best for speed if you know what you are sending us, Method 2 is best for repairs but slightly slower, Method 3 is just a bit of a pain but some people like it.
Method 1
Go to our online store LINK and select what blades and scissors etc you are sending us
Fill out any popups for scissors etc
Go to the basket at the bottom right of the screen and checkout
Pay for your order not forgetting to select the shipping option
You are then sent an e-mail with our postal address and your order number
Send off your grooming equipment to our address and include the order number
We then process your order and return it normally within 48 hours
Method 2
Go to our online store and select Repair placeholder which is a zero cost item
Fill out the pop up listing what you are sending
Go to the basket at the bottom right of the screen and checkout
Put in your shipping address and complete the order no payment is needed
You are then sent an e-mail with our postal address and your order number
Send off your grooming equipment to our address and include the order number
We receive the order and process it
We create an invoice and send it to you or we can add the order to our online shop
After payment we return your order
Method 3
Send your grooming equipment address which is below including your contact details
We manually create an order and process your order
We create an invoice and send it to you
After payment we return your order
Packaging
You’re sending us something probably sharp and expensive in the mail it is wise to take a few precautions against it damaging the packaging and ultimately whoever is handling the package. See below for one suggested way of packaging equipment.
To make our life easier then please go to our online shop and make up an order link HERE as this lets us know it is coming and we can keep an eye out for it and make allowances for it in our work planning.
For packaging we have some advice from the Royal mail which comes from HERE
With that in mind I have some advice at the bottom of this page on how to parcel up your gear.
Despite all of these precautions I would also remind you that sometimes stuff does get lost or delayed in the mail so I would encourage you to have a plan to keep on working if there is a delay as you don’t want to end up in a situation where you have no back-up
Do’s
Ensure scissors, clipper blades or knifes are well protected both to stop them from being damaged or from damaging the envelope
For scissors either put them in a protective pouch or wrap them in some paper or tissue to stop them from opening up.
Use a nice padded envelope or small box
Remember to put in a business card or your order number, even better print a copy of your order e-mail and include it
Take a picture of the contents of the parcel and the parcel to catch any errors later in the process
Write your return address on the outside
Send them via Royal mail or one of the better couriers like DPD, DHL
Let us know they are coming and if you can send me a tracking number and your order number if you’ve used the online shop
Don’ts
Do NOT under any circumstances use Herpes Evri as they have not delivered a parcel to our address for 2 years
Don’t forget to put your details in the package as our mind reading skills are a bit lacking
Don’t use a thin single skin envelope letting the sharps inside escape
Don’t send me all your clipper blades or scissors
Don’t use Hermes Evri (i know i’ve said this already but its worth repeating)
