Tourneo custom dog cages
This one was a challenge. A friend from the Great Dane world got a new van and was looking for a solution for to meet a rather unusual set of demands.
The Tourneo custom (its a posh transit minibus) has flexible seating arrangements so you can have 3 rows of seats or 2 rows of seats. With the third one either removed or folded up.
The 3rd row weighs about the same as a collapsed star so it was never going to be removed it was only ever going to be down or folded up.
Most of the time it would be folded up however occasionally it would be folded down so that the owner could take her son and friends out for a day trip.
The van would also be used for family holidays with Great Dane and luggage.
What i came up with is as the pictures below.
The rear bulkhead is a conventional solution with two doors so you can get the dog in or out.
The front bulkhead is a bit more unusual. This was built so it can either be mounted quite upright with it following the angle of the 3rd row seat backs. This sufficient space for a great dane to stick their head up and have a look around but lower down behind the seats it gives more room.
Should the 3rd row be folded up then the front bulkhead mounting points at the bottom move forward about 12 inches to give the dog more room. The top bracing bars are removed and replaced by ones about 2 foot longer which leans the bulkhead more vertical giving vastly more room at great dane head height
This gives a massive amount of room so for camping trips a central divider is bolted in to split this into two areas. one for the dog and one for luggage or a 2nd dog.
